6/19/14 – Syracuse, NY
VHS Fest, one of the many activities and events at the hugely popular Scareacon convention in Verona, NY, Sept 12th-14th, 2014, has added 2 more underground filmmakers to its list of guests. Brett Kelly, who’s made such cult flicks as “The Bonesetter”, “My Fair Zombie” and “Spyfall”, and Chris Seaver, best known for “Terror at Blood Fart Lake” and “Sexsquatch”, join the fun with previously announced filmmakers Todd Sheets, Hugh Gallagher, Mark Polonia and event promoter/filmmaker Ron Bonk. Expect special showings of work from each of these filmmakers, as well as some panel discussions – could be interesting and educational stuff for hopeful young filmmakers!
The VHS Fest corner of Scareacon will feature VHS vendors and traders, some of which may have special edition (and highly collectible) releases for the show and tables where you can meet these filmmakers and discuss your favorite movies from them (or discover their work – if you haven’t seen these true underground features, you are missing out!). It will run all 3 days with Scareacon. Watch for a schedule of films and panels closer to the event.
Keeping in mind that the film fest portion of Scareacon will bring in many independent and underground filmmakers (Drew Balduc of “The Taint” fame has indicated he will be in attendance for a screening of his new movie “Science Team”, and he is just the start of what will certainly be many more tied into the competition fest), attracts many filmmakers from Central NY, and that Scareacon itself is already bringing in several filmmakers who have tolled in the indie ranks (John Russo, Lloyd Kaufman, Britt Griffith, Brandon Slage and Devanny Pinn are all schedule to attend, among others), this event is shaping up to be the premiere spot anywhere for fans to meet and mingle with key people in the underground scene!
